In this page you will find examples of my portrait photography
along with some of my Baby Shoots and Family Shoots
WHAT ARE PORTRAIT SHOOTS??
There are many different types of portrait shoots.
Th e type of portrait required will depend on what the end user,
client needs to use the images for.
The main categories are Environmental Portraits, Headshot
Photography, Traditional Portraits, Candid Portraits and
Reportage Portraits.
To most of us they all sound the same, but they are all slightly
different.
Lets have a wee look at each .
ENVIRONMENTAL PORTRAITS as the name suggests are photos
of the subject/client in their work environment. ie a Blacksmith
in his Smithy. Generally these type of images are shot on location
and not in a studio.
HEADSHOT PORTRAITS are usually your standard head and shoulder
portraits cropped fairly tightly with the face being the key part of
the picture. These are usually formal in style, but can be used for
almost anything.
TRADITIONAL PORTRAITS.
The classic style , mostly head and shoulders(like headshots),
with the subject looking straight at the camera, usually posed.
Nowadays most people are looking for something a little less
posed and formal.
CANDID PORTRAITS.
This is fundamentally any phot without the subject being aware
they are being photographed. This is becoming very popular
at weddings and parties.
You don't plan Candid Portraits. They are a blend of street
photography, environmental photography. There's no posing
or set dressing. You try to take photos without people being
aware.
